STEESMAT partners align on system integration at Copenhagen workshop

May 20, 2025

STEESMAT consortium gathered in Copenhagen for its first interface workshop — a key step in aligning technical development across the project’s wide-ranging partners.

Winning an EU grant is an achievement — but it’s only the beginning. For STEESMAT, the real challenge lies in translating its ambitious vision into working solutions. That’s why the consortium gathered in Copenhagen earlier this month for its first interface workshop: to bridge the gap between planning and practical system integration.

STEESMAT is developing a smart DC grid architecture that combines advanced technologies like solid-state transformers, DC hubs, converters, protection systems, and smart control layers. Each of these elements is complex on its own — but the real test is making sure they work together as one safe, reliable, and efficient system.

The interface workshop was a critical early step in making that happen. By bringing together engineers, operators, and innovators from across the consortium, the team was able to:

  • Align technical designs and integration points
  • Clarify responsibilities and resolve overlaps
  • Identify potential risks or disconnects early — before they slow down progress

The workshop created space for frank discussions, knowledge sharing, and joint problem-solving. It helped sharpen STEESMAT’s trajectory and build the momentum needed to accelerate development.

Because delivering the green maritime technologies of the future demands more than innovation — it demands clarity, collaboration, and early alignment.
