Tore Boge opened with the bold statement: “Let’s make DC sexy again!”—a rallying call that captured the spirit of innovation driving the STEESMAT consortium. The project’s pioneering work in developing smart, efficient DC grids for large vessels is well underway, with full-scale testing at the Energy House laying the foundation for upcoming onboard demonstrations.
Hosted at Sustainable Energy Norwegian Catapult Centre’s Energy House, the event provided a platform to showcase how STEESMAT aims to develop and validate a new smart architecture for onboard DC grids. The Energy House test centre—described as a “ship on land”—will play a crucial role later in the project by offering a full-scale environment for technology testing and validation before onboard demonstration.

By gathering representatives from the maritime and energy sectors, Energy House Day fostered dialogue around how partnerships and infrastructure can fast-track maritime innovation. The STEESMAT project team used the occasion to outline how collaboration between technology developers, shipowners, and infrastructure providers will be key to the project’s success.

A special thank you goes to Sustainable Energy Norwegian Catapult Centre, Maritime CleanTech, Wärtsilä Norway, The Switch, Alltech, and HYDS – Hydrogen Solutions for contributing to an inspiring and forward-looking event.
